Okanagan B.C. — Earlier this week Lock Ness’s North American cousin, Ogopogo was spotted for the fifth time since April in the waters of Lake Okanagan.
Robyn Holman, a Kelowna resident spotted the allusive sea creature while drive down Highway 97 near Peachland when she noticed an unusual wave in the waters of Lake Okanagan. She quickly grabbed her camera and was able to snap a picture before the creature submerged under the water. The once in a life time photograph is now being developed according to reports.
Kelowna Mayor Sharon Shepherd commented on the sighting by saying, “I don’t think a year goes by where there isn’t at least one or two sightings,” she added, ”It’s something our community embraces as being something kind of unique and mysterious about our area and I think that’s always fun.”
The recent sightings started in April, when a retired dentist reported seeing it in Kelowna. A month later, there were two sightings on the south side of Trader’s Cove just north of Kelowna. In June A couple from Penticton reported seeing Ogopogo in the waters surrounding Rattlesnake Island, a small island across the from Peachland. Unfortunately no one was able to get the creature on film.
Ogopogo Researcher Bill Steciuk says the most common time to see the creature is from late August to the third week of September.
